Alliance Races At a Glance

October 21st, 2009 by Mike Miller | Filed in World of Warcraft

If you’ve decided that you want to play Alliance, the next thin that you are going to need to decide is what race you want to play. The advantages that each of the races has is fairly minimal, and if there is a race that you really like the look of, definitely play that race, but if you want to know how they are different, there are a few things to keep in mind. Even a small edge can be important, so see what you have available.

Humans

When you are thinking of rolling up a Human, you are looking at a +5 to your sword an mace skill as well as increased spirit and increased stealth detection. With the increased spirit, you have an advantage if you choose to play a priest, and if you are going to specialize in sword or mace, the +5 modifier can be important. Stealth detection is not going to come up all that often, so take some time and consider the other bonuses.

Gnomes

Gnomes are a great choice if you want to play a melee class thanks to their escape artist trait; this lets them get away from speed altering effects that can hold you down and cut back your damage. The +5 intelligence is good for anyone who wants to play a warlock or a mage, as is the arcane resistance. In terms of professions, the +5 to engineering can help you level this profession much more effectively.

Dwarves

Dwarves, like Humans, can play Paladins, but it is worth remembering that they can have the same problems due to reduced agility. They have stone form, which can help you level if you are playing a cloth wearing class, and you will also find that the +5 gun skill can be instrumental if you are looking at playing a hunter. Treasure finding is not quite as useful because chests are fairly obvious, but frost resistance can be useful if you are doing a lot of PVE.

Night Elves

There are likely quite a few Night Elf hunters and rogues on your server, and the Night Elf bonuses definitely have something to do with that. Night Elves get a dodge bonus that can prevent either of these leather wearing classes from getting hit and that can be quite helpful. They are also naturally resistant to nature damage and with Shadow Meld, they have a great ability to lower their threat; because of this, soloing can be much simpler.

Draenei

There are lots of great reasons to roll up Draenei and their bonuses are fairly good. With Gift of the Naaru, they can heal themselves or another person and they also have an increased chance to hit. As a race, they are resistant to shadow magic and they have a +5 to jewelcrafting.

Take some time and look over the races carefully. If you are feeling a little confused, remember that an Alliance leveling guide can help you make your decision!
